چکیده
We repeat Case Study 1 (see Section 4.3) for different planning horizons. In particular, in Case Study 1 we considered a planning horizon of 6 months (primarily because of data availability). To study the effect of the length of the planning horizon, we present here results for planning horizons of 3 months and 4.5 months. Table 3 reports the weights that our methodology assigns to each of the score components of the policy, for the different planning horizons we consider. Similarly, Table 4 reports the average organ wastage, i.e., the percentage of procured organs that were discarded due to successive rejections by patients, and the average life years from transplant. Finally, the distributions of recipients among different groups are depicted in Figure 4 and reported in Table 5.

Fairness, Efficiency and Flexibility in Organ Allocation for Renal Transplantation
We propose a scalable, data-driven method for designing national policies for the allocation of deceased donor kidneys to patients on a waiting list, in a fair and efficient way. We focus on policies that have the same form as the one currently used in the U.S. In particular, we consider policies that are based on a point system, which ranks patients according to some priority criteria, e.g., w...
متن کاملA Characterization of the Efficiency-Fairness Tradeoff
A central decision maker allocates resources to each of n players who derive utility from their allocation. Consequently, her actions may be viewed as choosing an allocation of utilities u = (u1, u2, . . . , un) from some set of feasible allocations U ∈ R+. Consider a decision maker that chooses an allocation u ∈ U to maximize n

متن کاملThe Price of Fairness
In this paper we study resource allocation problems that involve multiple self-interested parties or players, and a central decision maker. We introduce and study the price of fairness, which is the relative system efficiency loss under a “fair” allocation assuming that a fully efficient allocation is one that maximizes the sum of player utilities. We focus on two well accepted, axiomatically j...
متن کاملFairness in Operations: From Theory to Practice
This thesis deals with two basic issues in resource allocation problems. The first issue pertains to how one approaches the problem of designing the "right" objective for a given resource allocation problem. The notion of what is "right" can be fairly nebulous; we consider two issues that we see as key: efficiency and fairness. We approach the problem of designing objectives that account for th...
